| The Beginning Sing Out Proud! Brooklyn was founded nearly four years ago as a creative outlet for its members and as a musical resource for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community in Brooklyn and throughout New York City. The chorus has performed at a variety of community events, including same sex commitment ceremonies and public receptions for Howard Golden, the Brooklyn Borough President. Last summer, the chorus participated in the GALA Choruses Festival in San Jose, California. The chorus performed at the festival along with approximately 200 other choruses and 6,000 singers in the single largest GLBT performing arts event in history. The chorus, under the artistic direction of Audrey Terry, now numbers twenty and welcomes new singers from across the New York metropolitan area. As you will hear tonight, the chorus enjoys a diverse repertoire. The ongoing goals of the chorus and its elected board of directors are to further the cultural development of our diverse community in Brooklyn and elsewhere through musical performances; to provide opportunities for professional and nonprofessional singers and musicians; to learn new works and to perform them for the general public and to encourage our composers to conceive new choral and orchestral works. |
